Back-to-Back Home Defeats Prompt Coaching Change at Molde W
Molde W have suffered consecutive heavy home losses at Aker Stadium, falling 0–4 to Vålerenga W and 0–3 to Stabæk W in Toppserien action. The run of results has cost head coach Kent Rudning his job, with Per Gidlund now taking charge for the rest of the season.
A Difficult Run for Molde W at Home
Molde W's home form has come under sharp scrutiny after back-to-back heavy defeats at Aker Stadium. The side first fell 0–4 to Vålerenga W on September 26, conceding once before half-time before being undone further in the second half. A week and a half later, on October 4, Stabæk W visited and left with an equally commanding 0–3 victory, having led 0–2 at the break.
Two home Toppserien defeats in eight days represent a challenging period for the team, and the results have intensified questions about where the side goes from here.
A Managerial Change in Response
The club moved swiftly to address the situation. On October 6, Molde FK announced that head coach Kent Rudning and the club were parting ways with immediate effect. Per Gidlund has been appointed as caretaker head coach for the remainder of the season, with Kjell Arne Hestad stepping in as assistant trainer.
The decision reflects the seriousness with which the club is treating the team's recent performances, and supporters will be hoping the new management team can steady the ship.
What Comes Next at Aker Stadium
Despite the difficult results on the women's side, Aker Stadium itself remains one of the most active football venues in Norway this autumn. The 11,249-capacity fjordside arena is hosting top-flight football on an almost weekly basis, with both Molde FK in the Eliteserien and Molde W in the Toppserien sharing the ground.
For Molde W, the focus now turns to arresting the slide and finding form under new leadership before their next home fixtures. Meanwhile, the men's side have their own Eliteserien home programme to look forward to, with Start visiting Aker Stadium on October 18 as the next fixture on the calendar.
Tickets for all remaining home matches are available through Molde FK's official ticketing platform.
