Memorial Matches to Midwinter Derbies: Aker Stadion's Packed 2026
From a community memorial match in July to an Eliteserien finale in December, Aker Stadion is enjoying one of its most eventful years. The venue is hosting both Molde FK's men's Eliteserien campaign and the women's Toppserien programme, cementing its status as a true dual-purpose arena. The fixture list runs all the way to 6 December.
A Season Beyond League Football
Aker Stadion's 2026 calendar has been shaped not only by league results but also by moments of community significance. On 13 July the stadium hosted a Minnekamp — a memorial match — with kick-off at 17:00, drawing the Molde community together in a setting more usually associated with Eliteserien title races.
The occasion illustrated a side of Aker Stadion that its 11,249-seat capacity and ten kiosks do not fully capture: its place as a gathering point for the people of Molde, whatever the occasion.
Men's and Women's Football Side by Side
The 2026 season has also seen Aker Stadion firmly establish itself as a dual-purpose venue. Molde W have used the stadium as their Toppserien home throughout the campaign, bringing top-flight women's football to the fjordside ground on a regular basis. The 22 August fixture against LSK Kvinner W is merely the latest chapter in that story.
For men's football, a run of Eliteserien fixtures continues after August, with KFUM Oslo, Aalesund, Start, Fredrikstad, Bodø/Glimt and Viking all due to visit before the season closes in December.
Built for This
Opened on 18 April 1998 and funded by Kjell Inge Røkke and Bjørn Rune Gjelsten at a cost of 212 million kroner, Aker Stadion was designed by Molde architect Kjell Kosberg. Artificial turf was installed in 2014. The venue houses a restaurant, a café, ten kiosks and eight commentary boxes — infrastructure that supports not only weekly league football but the full variety of events the stadium takes on.
With its fixture list running to 6 December and a Toppserien programme alongside it, Aker Stadion looks set to close the 2026 season every bit as busy as it began it.
