Minnekamp to Midwinter: Aker Stadion's 2026 Season in Full Swing
From a community memorial match in July to a packed Eliteserien and Toppserien programme stretching to December, Aker Stadion is having its busiest and most versatile year yet. A 3–3 thriller against Sarpsborg 08, a Sunday showdown with Tromsø and a Toppserien double-header with Molde W have kept the fjordside arena buzzing throughout August.
A Stadium at the Heart of the Community
Aker Stadion has long served as more than a football ground for the people of Molde. The summer of 2026 has brought that reality into sharp focus, with the fjordside arena hosting a Minnekamp — a community memorial match — on 13 July, just days before Molde FK returned to the intensity of Eliteserien action against SK Brann. The back-to-back occasions underlined the stadium's dual role: a venue for top-flight competition and a gathering place for the wider Romsdal community.
Opened on 18 April 1998 and designed by local architect Kjell Kosberg, the stadium was built at a cost of 212 million kroner, funded by Kjell Inge Røkke and Bjørn Rune Gjelsten. With a capacity of 11,249, it remains one of the most distinctive arenas in Norwegian football — set against the Romsdal fjord and equipped with a restaurant, a café, ten kiosks and eight commentary boxes.
August's Busiest Home Fortnight
After Molde FK opened the month with a pulsating 3–3 draw against Sarpsborg 08 FF on 2 August, the stadium's busiest home stretch of the season followed in quick succession. An Eliteserien clash with Tromsø IL took place on Sunday 16 August, with kick-off at 17:00. Supporters attending the away fixture were reminded that bottles and visiting club colours are restricted to the designated section on the Istad tribune.
Just six days later, on 22 August, the spotlight shifted to the women's game as Molde W hosted LSK Kvinner W in Round 13 of the 2026 Toppserien. The fixture was part of a season-long arrangement that has seen Aker Stadion serve as the permanent home base for Molde W throughout 2026 — a commitment that underlines the club's investment in the women's game.
A Calendar That Runs to December
The installation of artificial turf in 2014 has proven to be one of the most consequential decisions in the stadium's history. It allows fixtures to be staged deep into the Norwegian autumn and winter, and the 2026 schedule takes full advantage. Home Eliteserien fixtures against KFUM (6 September), Aalesund (19 September), Start (18 October), Fredrikstad (25 October), Bodø/Glimt (22 November) and Viking (6 December) are all pencilled in at Aker Stadion before the year is out.
