Three matches in seven days at Aker Stadion, starting with Fredrikstad

2 min read

Aker Stadion has a busy week ahead. Molde host Fredrikstad on Sunday evening and Stromsgodset on Wednesday, and Molde W then play Bodø/Glimt W on Saturday. Molde, third in the Eliteserien, are looking to build on their 6-1 win over Start.

Fredrikstad first

Sunday's visit of Fredrikstad kicks off at 7:15 PM. Molde arrive in third place in the Eliteserien with 40 points from 23 games. They are level on points with fourth-placed Tromso and three clear of Rosenborg in fifth. Fredrikstad are eighth on 29 points, 11 behind their hosts.

Molde go into the match after a 6-1 win over Start on 18 October, a game they led 2-0 at half-time. Start sit bottom of the table on 16 points. That result will give the home crowd reason to expect plenty on Sunday evening.

The top of the table is a long way off. Bodo/Glimt and Viking are level on 56 points, 16 more than Molde. The race for third place and the chasing pack looks like the more realistic fight for the home side.

Stromsgodset on Wednesday

The home programme does not slow down after the weekend. Molde host Stromsgodset on Wednesday 28 October, with kick-off at 6:00 PM. That is an earlier start than Sunday's evening fixture, so supporters planning to go to both games will need to adjust their routines.

Two home league matches in four days is a heavy load for the club and for the stadium. Aker Stadion has an artificial surface, which has been in place since 2014.

Women's match to round off the week

The week at Aker Stadion ends with the women's team. Molde W face Bodø/Glimt W on Saturday 31 October at 2:00 PM. That makes three matches at the ground in seven days.

Molde W and the men's team share the stadium. The fixture list therefore puts the ground to heavy use through the autumn.

The ground

Aker Stadion has a capacity of 11,249. It stands at Reknes on the shore of the Moldefjord, a short distance west of the town centre. The ground opened on 18 April 1998 with a 4-0 win over Lillestrom. Its attendance record of 13,308 was set that year, when Rosenborg won 2-0 away from home.

The building includes a restaurant, a café, ten kiosks and 52 toilets. There is also a supporters' kiosk with windows facing the pitch, where match tickets are sold.
