Aker Stadion is at the centre of Norwegian football this August, hosting three home fixtures across the men's Eliteserien and women's Toppserien. Molde FK face Tromsø IL on Sunday 16 August before Molde W welcome LSK Kvinner W the following weekend. The packed programme is part of a fixture list that stretches deep into December.
A Stadium Carrying the Weight of a City
August 2026 has confirmed what those in Molde have long known: Aker Stadion is far more than a football ground. The fjordside arena opened the month with a pulsating 3-3 Eliteserien draw against Sarpsborg 08 FF on 2 August, before turning its attention to Sunday's visit from Tromsø IL.
With kick-off set for 17:00 on 16 August, Molde — sitting fifth in the Eliteserien table with 24 points — arrive at the fixture hungry for three points. The match is the headline act in a run of three home games that also features a Toppserien encounter the following weekend.
Tromsø in Town, then LSK Kvinner
The Tromsø fixture is already generating significant interest among the Molde support. Supporters have been reminded that the away end is restricted to the designated section on the Istad tribune, and that bottles and away colours are not permitted in other areas of the ground.
Just six days after the Tromsø clash, Aker Stadion switches codes — in spirit, at least — when Molde's women's side host LSK Kvinner W in Round 13 of the 2026 Toppserien on 22 August at 14:00. The back-to-back weekends of top-flight football at the same venue underline the stadium's growing dual-purpose identity throughout this campaign.
Busy Autumn Still to Come
With a capacity of 11,249, artificial turf laid in 2014, a restaurant, café, ten kiosks and eight commentary boxes, Aker Stadion is well equipped to handle the demands of this relentless schedule. Built in 1998 at a cost of 212 million kroner and designed by Molde architect Kjell Kosberg, the arena has rarely been busier.
The diary does not ease after August either. Eliteserien home fixtures against KFUM Oslo, Aalesund, Start, Fredrikstad, Bodø/Glimt and Viking are all scheduled between September and December, ensuring the stadium will remain at the heart of Norwegian football long after the summer nights have faded.
