Lonebu hits four as Molde thrash Fredrikstad 5-1 at Aker Stadion

Kristian Lonebu scored four times as Molde beat Fredrikstad 5-1 at Aker Stadion on Sunday evening. The win keeps Molde third in Eliteserien and sets up a busy week at the ground, starting with Strømsgodset on Wednesday.

Lonebu runs the show

Fredrikstad struck first, and the visitors' lead lasted only a few minutes. Bryan Fiabema scored in the 8th minute, set up by Sondre Sørløkk. Molde then took over.

Kristian Lonebu equalised in the 11th minute from a Sander Kilen assist. He added a second in the 17th, set up by Mathias Løvik, to put the hosts 2-1 ahead.

Emil Breivik made it 3-1 in the 35th minute, and that was the half-time score. Martin Linnes supplied the pass, and Molde's match thread on X described the finish as controlled.

Lonebu completed his four goals after the break. Sondre Granaas set up his third, in the 60th minute. Emil Breivik provided the assist for the fourth, in the 63rd, and Lonebu was replaced by Spiten Nysæter straight afterwards. Jalal Abdullai came on for Kilen in the 65th minute.

Fredrikstad pressed for a second goal late on, but the Molde defence held. Abdullai had a big chance in the 89th minute, and Fredrikstad goalkeeper Martin Børsheim saved it.

Squad and table

Molde named a 4-4-2 with Albert Posiadała in goal. Linnes, Eirik Haugan, Fredrik Kristensen Dahl and Løvik made up the back four. Caleb Zady Sery, Daniel Daga, Granaas and Kilen formed the midfield, with Lonebu and Breivik up front.

Six players were listed as unavailable through injury before kick-off: Sivert Hansen, Mads Kikkenborg, Halldor Stenevik, Vebjørn Hoff, Eirik Hestad and Seydina Diop.

The win leaves Molde third in Eliteserien after 24 games, on 43 points. Viking lead on 59 points and Bodø/Glimt are second on 56. Fredrikstad are 11th on 29 points.

Busy week ahead

The result comes at the start of a run of three matches at Aker Stadion in seven days. Molde host Strømsgodset on Wednesday, 28 October, at 6:00 PM. That tie is listed in the men's cup on the visitors' fixture list.

On Saturday, 31 October, at 2:00 PM, Molde's women's side host Bodø/Glimt's women at the stadium.

After four goals from Lonebu, the Molde faithful will hope the scoring continues when the stadium is back in action in midweek.
