Memorial Match to Midwinter Derby: Aker Stadion's Packed 2026
A memorial match in July, a thrilling Eliteserien programme and a Toppserien schedule running into winter — Aker Stadion is doing far more than hosting football in 2026. The fjord-side arena continues to serve as the beating heart of the Molde community.
More Than a Football Ground
Aker Stadion has long been the spiritual home of Molde FK, but the summer of 2026 has reinforced just how central the venue is to life in Molde beyond the Eliteserien. On 13 July the stadium hosted a Minnekamp — a memorial match — with kick-off at 17:00, drawing the local community together in a setting normally reserved for league football. The occasion came just days before Molde's high-profile home fixture against SK Brann, illustrating the breadth of events the ground accommodates across a single week.
Opened on 18 April 1998 and designed by Molde architect Kjell Kosberg, the stadium was built at a cost of 212 million kroner, funded by Kjell Inge Røkke and Bjørn Rune Gjelsten. Its artificial turf surface, installed in 2014, allows matches and events to be staged throughout the Norwegian season regardless of conditions.
Facilities Built for Every Occasion
With a capacity of 11,249, Aker Stadion is equipped to serve the full range of matchday needs. The venue houses a restaurant, a café, ten kiosks and eight commentary boxes — infrastructure that supports not only weekly league football but also the variety of community and commemorative events the stadium takes on. Its location by the fjord gives it a setting that is, by any measure, unique among Norwegian football grounds.
The stadium hosts both the men's Eliteserien programme and the women's Toppserien home fixtures for Molde W, making it a genuine dual-purpose venue that reflects the club's commitment to the full breadth of the game.
A Fixture List That Runs to Winter
The schedule through to December 2026 confirms that Aker Stadion will rarely sit idle. Home Eliteserien fixtures against KFUM (6 September), Aalesund (19 September), Start (18 October), Fredrikstad (25 October), Bodø/Glimt (22 November) and Viking (6 December) are all pencilled in, alongside the Toppserien clash with LSK Kvinner W on 22 August. Fans can purchase tickets for all upcoming home matches through the official Molde FK ticketing platform.
