Aalesund End Derby Night With Win at Aker Stadion
Aalesund secured a 2-1 victory over Molde in Saturday's west-coast Eliteserien derby at Aker Stadion. Two first-half goals put the visitors firmly in control before Kristian Lonebu's late strike gave the hosts a consolation. The defeat is a blow to Molde's autumn home run ambitions.
Aalesund Strike Twice Before the Break
Aalesund arrived at Aker Stadion on Saturday evening and took command almost immediately. Mathias Christensen opened the scoring as early as the seventh minute, with Isak Gabriel Skotheim doubling the visitors' advantage on the stroke of half-time to leave Molde with a mountain to climb after the interval.
The two-goal deficit at the break reflected a first half in which the visitors were sharper, more direct, and clinical in front of goal — leaving the home side's supporters in the fjordside stands stunned.
Lonebu Gives Molde Late Hope
Molde showed more resolve after the restart and were rewarded when Kristian Lonebu pulled one back in the 82nd minute, assisted by E. Breivik, to set up a nervy final few minutes. Despite the late pressure, Aalesund held firm to claim all three points at the 11,249-capacity ground.
The result is a setback for Molde's Eliteserien campaign, coming as part of a six-game home run that the club had earmarked as the defining stretch of their 2026 season. Before Saturday's defeat, Molde had occupied third place in the Eliteserien standings with 36 points.

Despite the disappointment, Aker Stadion remains a busy venue with important fixtures still to come on both the men's and women's sides. Molde W are next in action at home on 26 September, when they welcome Vålerenga W in Toppserien competition, followed by a clash with Stabæk W on 4 October.
